The Gashadokuro is a giant skeleton from Japanese folklore. This massive skeletal creature is said to be formed from the bones of people who died without proper burial. As a result, their vengeful spirits gather, creating a monstrous being.
Standing at around 15 times the size of an average human, the Gashadokuro roams at night, seeking to consume unsuspecting travellers by biting off their heads. It is characterised by its stealth, as it approaches silently until victims hear a faint ringing in their ears, signalling their doom. According to legend, Gashadokuro are almost impossible to destroy but eventually fall apart as their accumulated energy dissipates.
Although the creature is rooted in traditional Japanese lore, the concept of the Gashadokuro gained popularity in modern media, being featured in various anime, games, and literature, further expanding its mythology.
